    ZHENG Jun-Xing, JIA Jian
    2012, 46 (01):  36-41.
    Abstract ( 3267 )   Save
An approach was presented to assess the basal heave stability of a kind of distinctive excavations——nested excavations which means that a comparatively smallscale excavation must be located in a large-scale one in some special projects. A new formula targeting on calculating the factor of safety against basal heave of nested excavations was developed in this research, grounding on the widely used conventional computing method for the single excavation. The achievement in this paper has been applied in a typical case in which the structure of a metro station of Line 13 lies beneath basement of the Shanghai Natural History Museum and thus they are co-constructed and form the nested excavations. The results demonstrate that the new formula of this paper could reasonably compute the factor of safety against basal heave of the nested excavations.

    Abstract ( 3964 )   HTML ( 890 )   PDF (724KB) ( 717 )   Save

The three dimensional finite element model was built up to simulate an over size and deep excavation traversing shield tunnels, and the effects on surroundings and tunnel heave due to excavation were analyzed. From monitored retaining wall horizontal displacements and tunnel heave, a simplex method was employed for back- analysis of soil parameters. According to the back-analysis program based on simplex method, optimized soil parameters were attained after finite element analysis. The final tunnel heave was predicted by the optimized soil parameters. The results show that the predicted tunnel heave is close to monitored data, which guarantees the effectiveness of back analysis by this paper.

    2012, 46 (01):  53-57.
    Abstract ( 3631 )   Save
Based on a history case of excavation above the existing tunnel, this study analyzed the effect of nearby dewatering on the existing rivercrossing tunnel by the finite element method. The influence factors such as the declined depth of groundwater, the extracting layer, the dewatering time and the dewatering method are considered. The results show that dewatering above will cause the settlement of the tunnel. The dewatering depth of groundwater and the tunnel settlement present a linear relationship. Pumping from the lowpressure artesian aquifer will lead to larger tunnel settlement. The longer the dewatering lasts, the larger settlement of tunnel will occur. The result also shows that dewatering inside the foundation pit will cause less amount of tunnel settlement than dewatering outside.

    Abstract ( 2792 )   HTML ( 9 )   PDF (768KB) ( 646 )   Save

A three-dimensional finite element model based on viscoelastic boundaries was developed to effectively capture the dynamic behavior of the metro transfer hall hub of the People's Square. Dynamic characteristics of the underground structure during vibration induced by dismantling temporary reinforced-concrete supporting system were studied, resorting to the Newmark method. In-situ monitoring data were used to calibrate the proposed method in this paper. The results show dynamic characteristics of the underground structure under vibration loading are accurately simulated by the presented model based on viscoelastic boundaries, and thus spurious reflections on the interface of soil and structure can be effectively eliminated. Prediction on the possibility of structural resonance under vibration loading can also be made by the proposed model, which is of benefit to decision making of engineering design and construction.

The soft soil creep (SSC) model was adopted to simulate the whole process of a deep foundation pit with different construction conditions. Comparisons of the effect of different construction technologies on the deformation of foundation pit and the surroundings were made. The results show that the deformation features of the foundation pit under both construction technologies are similar. The top-down channel-type construction technology is more effective on controlling the deformation of the enclosure structures, and has less impact on the surrounding by decreasing the ground settlement, the lateral displacement of soil outside the pit and the upheaval mount of soil at the pit bottom. While considering the train load, with top-down channel-type construction technology, the deformation of the railway subgrade is safe.

    Abstract ( 3535 )   Save
Building a large-span multi-arch tunnel by single-tunnel method under complex urban shallow-buried conditions is a challenging engineering problem. Without the middle wall supporting, it is very important to choose a suitable construction method and scheme, which is used to control the deformation of the surrounding rock, and reduce the adverse effect of construction process. By finite element method, the excavation effects of two construction methods, the bench method and the center cross diaphragm (CRD) method, were compared based on the displacements of surrounding rock and lining. The result shows that the CRD method has advantages in coupling the surrounding rock. For the CRD method, it is better to excavate the outer than the inner regions.

Stress distribution condition on the action of heat balance environment of the structure of a certain sink-style road was analyzed by finite element method, which is to get the position and causes of possible failure in the structures of the sink-style road. The impact factors such as thickness and Young’s modulus of the structure anti-floating baseplate, the reinforcement ratio, and positions of reinforcement were also discussed. The results indicate that opening (type I) cracks might be produced firstly at the bottom of the continuous reinforced concrete (CRC) layer. Both the thickness of the structure anti-floating baseplate and the location of the reinforcement pose a notable influence on the generation of type I cracks.

Based on Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations and the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model, the wind pressure distribution and wind-loading shape coefficients on gable roof of low-rise buildings with cornices were studied by using stabilized fluid finite element method. The effects of some key parameters, such as length and height of cornices and roof pitch, on wind pressure distribution upon gable roof and the flow around low-rise buildings were analyzed. The result shows that wind loading shape coefficient on the roof is remarkably affected by vertical cornices, but slightly affected by horizontal cornices which are under strong minus wind pressure environment. Furthermore, the cornices with both vertical and horizontal sections greatly change the wind pressure distribution on the roof.

    Abstract ( 4155 )   Save
In the case of power distribution box fire occurred outside shield machine in narrow tunnel during construction, the mesh model including tunnel, fire source, ventilation pipeline and so on was created and the blocking smoke effect of water curtain was simulated. Then some improvements were made based on the defect of original shield machine water curtain system, and the blocking smoke effect of improved water curtain system was verified. As well as the spread of smoke in tunnel was studied by changing numbers and flow rates of sprinklers. The results show that water curtain can effectively prevent the external smoke from spreading into the side of shield machine and ensure the security of staff near the driving surface. Reasonable sprinklers layout can make the water droplets distribution more uniform, which can prevent the spread of smoke better. And a modest increase in the numbers and flow rates of sprinklers of water curtain system can improve the blocking smoke effect.

Numerical Analysis of Flow Past Two Bluff Bodies with Square-Section in Tandem Arrangement
WU Qi-二, ZHOU Dai, FU Gong-Yi
    2012, 46 (01):  130-135.
    Abstract ( 3083 )   Save
The flow past two tandem squaresection bluff bodies with various spacing ratios was investigated numerically by using a second-order CBS finite element algorithm. The study mainly focuses on the effect of spacing ratios (ratio of center-to-center distance to width of bluff body) on the flow characteristics at a Reynolds number of 100. The mean drag coefficient and the root-mean-square drag and lift coefficients, the Strouhal number as well as the pressure coefficient are plotted as a function of the spacing ratio. The results reveal that spacing ratio has a great impact on the flow characteristics and the critical spacing ratio range is identified between 4.50 and 4.75, since the mean and root-mean-square force coefficients jump suddenly in this spacing ratio interval. When two bluff bodies with square-section are placed in tandem, the mean drag coefficient can be reduced effectively. The results also show that the root-mean-square lift coefficient of the downstream bluff body is always greater than that of upstream bluff body due to the wake interference. A significant difference of surface pressure coefficient distribution can also be observed.

Model test was performed to investigate the propagation and decay of impact-load induced vibration in sandy soil, and the effect of vibration screening panel was furthermore studied. The results show that the polystyrene wave-absorbing panel placed at the boundary of test box is effective in controlling the boundary reflection of vibration waves. The impact-load induced vibration decays rapidly with the increase of distance from the load point, and the attenuation of peak acceleration along horizontal, vertical and diagonal direction can be well fitted by the function of amax=kR. Polystyrene screening panel, behind which vibration can be reduced, has the negative effect of intensifying the vibration just before it, this may be caused by the reflecting of vibration wave at the screening panel.

    2012, 46 (01):  152-157.
    Abstract ( 3336 )   Save
Reinforced concrete structural members with annular section are commonly used in concrete chimneys, concrete pipes and elevated water tanks, as well as in large bridge columns and offshore platforms. So it is very necessary to study the mechanism of reinforced concrete annular section structures subjected to complex force combination. Based on traditional Nielsen model, a unified failure model on reinforced concrete members with annular section under combined forces of tension, compression, bending, shear and torsion was formed. The advantages of this model are to consider the dowel actions of the reinforcements and reasonably to consider the shear carrying capacity of concrete, which makes the calculation results more close to the practical situations. Then, the theoretical results of this model are compared with Nielsen model and a series of experimental results of annular section members. The comparison verifies that the new model is feasible for the design and calculation of annular section members.
