    HE Tao, ZHOU Dai
    2011, 45 (10):  1425-1429.
    Abstract ( 3571 )   Save
Smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) was presented for 2D free surface flows based on the assumption that the fluid was treated as weakly compressible. The normalized quintic spline function was used as SPH kernel function. The flow pressure was obtained by the solution of equation of state. The threestep method equipped with variable time steps was employed in explicit time stepping. A link list algorithm served as an efficient nearest neighboring particles searching and dynamic particles were utilized to model solid walls. Several improvements were carried out to cure flaws of SPH. The obtained results agree well with the experimental data and prevail against the existing numerical data.

    Abstract ( 2808 )   Save
The 2-D flow field of driven skewed cavity with big aspect ratio was numerically predicted using unstructured grids. Advancing front method was employed for the generation of unstructured grid. The smoothness and orthogonality of generated unstructured grid are improved by structured background grid, Laplacian filter operator and diagonal swap method. The program was first validated by steady lid-driven cavity problem with aspect ratio=1 and it is found that with only 1/6 grid number of reference, the simulated results are in good accordance with benchmark solutions. Then the driven skewed cavity with aspect ratio=2 and different skewed angles were solved. The results indicate that Re took more effect on center-line velocity distribution compared with the skewed angle. The main vortex structure in flow field varies little with just an extension of middle vortex scale. The results are meaningful for the design of similar structures in industry.

    Abstract ( 4170 )   Save
To deal with the effect of compressibility on the supersonic supercavitating projectile, a finite volume method was presented based on the ideal compressible potential flow. A solution for the inverse problem of supercavitating flow was proposed using continuity equation and Tait state equation combining with Riabouchinsky closure model. A new iterative scheme about supercavity shape was designed according to the impenetrable condition. The compressibility effect on the supercavity shape and drag coefficient was analyzed on the basis of solving supersonic supercavitating flow over disk cavitator. Under the supersonic condition(Mach number is between 1.0 and 1.2), the fluid compressibility will make the supercavitation a slight asymmetry. The front section is narrower than the end of the section and the maximum supercavity section is slightly moved backward. The supercavity slenderness and pressure drag coefficient will raise with the increase of Mach number at constant cavitation number. The computational results are agree well with other result.

    Abstract ( 3536 )   Save
Applicability of two different impact models considering damping in the process of normal contact-impact between a flexible beam and a rigid sphere was investigated, combining the theoretical and experimental methods. Based on Euler-Bernoulli beam assumption and geometric nonlinear theory, dynamic model of a planar flexible beam was established using absolute nodal coordinate formulation. Firstly, impact dynamic equations of flexible multi-body system are established using nonlinear spring-damper model, and then considering residual local deformation, dynamic equations of the system are established using elastic-plastic impact model, in which the impact can be divided into three periods: The elastic loading, the elastic-plastic loading, and the elastic unloading. Finally, a normal impact experiment between a flexible beam and a rigid sphere was carried out to verify that the elastic-plastic impact model is more suitable for impact analysis by comparison of the simulation and experiment results.

A common defect of movingparticle semi-implicit method and other mesh free method such as SPH is that the pressure fluctuation is obvious and hard to resolve. A new method was proposed to reduce pressure fluctuation and has good effect. Divergence-free condition representing fluid incompressible is used to calculate pressure smoothly, then time average is used to deal with the calculation. There are two kinds of cases being numerically simulated which are water collapse and ship roll sloshing. Comparing to the original MPS method, the result from the new method is real, so that the new method has good practicability and reliability.

This paper proposed a new model updating method based on frequency response functions which avoids the modal analysis process. This method takes the design parameters as the updating objects, moreover, it does not need matching the frequency response functions of the finite element model and the experiment and only a few measured data are needed to fulfill model updating. The model updating of a plane truss structure shows that the proposed method can get the perfect results under disturb of noise which proves the validity of the method.

    Abstract ( 3579 )   Save
Based on the twodimensional elasticity theory, the buckling modes of delaminated composite beams were studied. Firstly, according to the plane elasticity theory, the analytical solution of a piece of homogeneous beam is obtained, which exactly satisfies the simply-supported conditions of the beam at two ends. Then, using the point collocation technique, taking the series terms equal to the matching points, the critical buckling loads were obtained by means of the interface equations at every points as well as the upper and lower surface conditions of the beam. The displacement modes of the beam are given by substituting the critical loads back to the eigenvalue equations. The possible contact on the delaminated interfaces is considered in the present study. “Free” and “contact” modes are separately computed. According to the situations of the vertical displacements and normal stresses on the delaminated interfaces, the real buckling modes can be judged. The effects of the sizes and positions of the delaminations on the buckling modes were investigated. The present method is applicable not only to the slender beams, but also to the thick beams. And the contact problem was also well solved.

    Abstract ( 3514 )   Save
Rigid-flexible coupling dynamic performance of an elastoplastic beam with large deformation was investigated. Based on nonlinear constitutive relation and nonlinear strain-displacement relationship, and using exact expression of curvature, dynamics variational equations for an elasto-plastic beam with large deformation were established using virtual work principle and absolute nodal coordinate formulation. Finite element method was used for discretization, and then rigid-flexible coupling dynamic equations were established. The simulations of a single pendulum under gravity show that elasto-plastic strain leads to the increase of the absolute value of the average transverse deformation and the decrease of transverse vibration amplitude. Furthermore, the comparison of the present nonlinear formulation with oneorder approximate dynamic model based on the theory of small deformation shows that the present result is stable for large deformation problem.

    Abstract ( 3263 )   Save
The problem of buckling of delamination stitched with fiberbridge in 3D composites was solved by FEA. Linear springs of tensiononly or compressiononly distributed on the nodes of delamination cells are used to simulate the fibers and substrate respectively. The problem of eigenvalue buckling is transformed into the problem of geometric nonlinearities with an initial imperfection and solved by FEA of incremental nonlinear structural analysis. The results show that there are period contact points (districts) between delamination and substrate. And as the elastic coefficient of the fiber bridge increases, the critical buckling loads may also increase. The relation of the characteristic length and fiberbridge is expressed by mathematical formula.

Time domain method was used to simulate deepwater current generation system by solving N-S equation and k -ω turbulent model. Three dimensional model is created and calculated in order to investigate the distribution of vertical profile velocity in the test area, disclose the fluid characteristics of the current generation system. Multi-block structural grids are used to create domain meshes. Non-matching grids are created between culverts and deepwater basin which connect with interface method. The numerical result and full-scale measurement data fit a bit well through comparison, indicating CFD method is available in simulating Current generation system. Flow field is uniform and constant in test area, the distribution of vertical profile velocity meets test need, which indicates the performance of current generation system is pretty good. In addition, the flow distributions around containers, inflow and outflow galleries, turning vanes etc are also predicted by CFD methods. The results provide an important reference for further research on flow characteristic of current generation system, effectively adjusting the current velocities, increasing efficiency of current generation system and model test precision with current.

An elastic modulus test method of nano-materials was proposed based on atomic force microscopy (AFM). AFM was also used as a tool to observe the interface microstructure of a thin coating material and a quantitative analysis of the elastic deformation was made as a result of the presence of interface phase. The research results show that the sample here has flexible interface. The microstructure distribution of the interface phase is classified as grain-boundary nano-phase, and this kind of microstructure helps to alleviate and prevent cracks, thus increasing the carrying capacity of nano coating materials. The focus is to explore how the interface microstructures influence the coating material elastic deformation.

Based on a nonlocal elastic theory, an analytical method was presented to investigate the effects of small scale parameter on the shrinkage rate and the healing time history of a void in stressed grain. The example calculation shows that the effects of the small scale parameter on the shrinkage rate of a void in stressed grain gradually increase as the size of void decreases, and the void in grain is not eliminated only through lattice diffusion due to the small scale effect. The result gives a reference to reveal the selfhealing mechanism of the damage defects in stressed materials subjected to hydrostatic pressures.

The load model and its design method of a pipe are to be improved. Based on the South Line project of sewage treatment in Shanghai, the performance of inner diameter of 4 m jacking pipe was studied by numerical simulation. The variation of contact pressure between pipe and soil during construction was analyzed, and the influence of covering soil depth was then discussed. The differences of the load model from "the technical specification for pipe jacking of water supply and sewerage engineering" were researched, and the differences of the internal forces were compared. The results show that soil arch effect is strengthened with increasing of cover soil depth, while the distribution of contact pressure is more uniform than the codes. Therefore, the active earth pressure is conservative to calculate lateral pressure, and the subgrade reaction could be also more uniformed. The bending moment of pipe will decrease while the axis force increase if the load model is improved, which would optimize the design method of pipe.

Usually spray system is applied to form a cascade control system and cascade PID scheme is usually employed to control superheated steam temperature. The spray valve is subject to physical constraints so that actuator saturation happens because of the set point computed by the outer loop controller.      In order to preserve the basic information of images and to improve their visual effect and space resolution, a novel image zooming algorithm was proposed by using improved weighted parabolic interpolation and Contourlet transformation. The proposed algorithm incorporates the erroramended part into the weighted parabolic interpolation algorithm. Directions of the interpolation points are determined by the Sobel operator, then we get a preliminary zoomed image. Highfrequency components are got by a Contourlet transformation, and lowfrequency components are replaced by the enhanced amplitude of the original image. A highresolution image is achieved by inverse Contourlet transformation. The experimental results indicate that, compared with traditional image zooming algorithms, this algorithm can get clearer and sharper edges due to considerations of global pixels correlation of the original image.

The adjacent bands of hyperspectral image are highly correlated. It is not optimum to classify the hyperspectral image in the high dimensional space. In addition, optimizing the parameter of classifier by the cross validation method is not a trivial task. Aiming at the two targets, the classification of the hyperspectral image with genetic relevance vector machine (GA-RVM) was proposed. GARVM searches the best parameter and feature space for relevance vector machine (RVM), to reduce the redundant information and simplify the parameter optimization procedure. GA-RVM was evaluated by several experiments. Nearly 50% of the bands are eliminated during the optimization, leading to a 3% increase in the overall accuracy. The improvements are obvious for the hard-to-separate classes. Two kinds of soybeans that have the most misclassifications acquire an 8% improvement in accuracy.

To improve network performance in dynamic traffic condition, an adaptive and asynchronous MAC protocol called AX-MAC was proposed. Based on preamble sampling technique, AX-MAC halves the length of wakeup preamble by employing some early ACK listening periods intercepted into strobed preambles. It also allows nodes to adjust their polling intervals according to the traffic conditions quickly and accurately by employing a two-parameters-based traffic determining mechanism. A model based on Markov chain is set up to analyze the influence of these two parameters. The simulations illustrate that AX-MAC can significantly reduce network latency on dynamic traffic conditions. Moreover, it also provides an optimal energy-latency trade-off by selecting proper parameters couples carefully.

For low bit-rate H.264/AVC video, this paper proposed a semi-fragile content authentication algorithm in VLC domain. Utilizing the intra prediction mode and coded block pattern in VLC domain, the algorithm chooses those macro-blocks. The experimental results show that this algorithm performs well in visual quality impact, keeps the bitrate basically unchanged and enhances the watermark capacity. By verifying the extracted signature, the algorithm can efficiently detect and locate the tampering on the video with high real-time.

One-way traffic is usually used to relieve traffic congestion in many cities. As there are generally two lanes on one-way roads, the phenomenon often occurs at the intersection that a lane is free while the other is congested. Based on the situation of asymmetric traffic flow, the use of variable lanes was studied and the setting method of variable lanes was analyzed. With the signal control coordinated strategy, the calculation method of switching-on and-off of the variable sign board was presented. Besides, the efficiency of variable lanes was comprehensively evaluated using such indexes as queue length, capacity, delays etc. Moreover, taking the intersection between Shanghai Dongfang Road and Pusan Road as an example, the traffic demand and problems at morning rush hours were investigated and the feasibility of setting variable lanes at the south section of Pusan Road was proposed. The simulation results indicate that the variable lanes can increase the capacity at the intersection, and reduce secondary queuing, thus reducing average delay by approximately 30%.
