Numerical Study on Driven Skewed Cavity with Big Aspect Ratio Using Unstructured Grid

Abstract: The 2-D flow field of driven skewed cavity with big aspect ratio was numerically predicted using unstructured grids. Advancing front method was employed for the generation of unstructured grid. The smoothness and orthogonality of generated unstructured grid are improved by structured background grid, Laplacian filter operator and diagonal swap method. The program was first validated by steady lid-driven cavity problem with aspect ratio=1 and it is found that with only 1/6 grid number of reference, the simulated results are in good accordance with benchmark solutions. Then the driven skewed cavity with aspect ratio=2 and different skewed angles were solved. The results indicate that Re took more effect on center-line velocity distribution compared with the skewed angle. The main vortex structure in flow field varies little with just an extension of middle vortex scale. The results are meaningful for the design of similar structures in industry.
