Abstract: A visual measurement method based on the baseline length of cameras was presented to measure the pitch length of five neighboring links of large scale three dimensional mooring chains with complex shape. The task is separated into two subtasks, including calibrating the baseline length of neighboring cameras and the horizontal distances between the five neighboring links’ edges and the principal point of the corresponding camera. The edge detection method and visual measurement method of five neighboring links were proposed. The experimental results show that the system can detect the edges precisely, and compute the pitch length with the relative error less than 0.2%, satisfying application requirements.
