Guide for Authors

  • Changes in authorship and contributorship

In accordance with the national laws and regulations, especially the specification “Academic publishing specification—Definition of academic misconduct for journals” promulgate by the National Press and Publication Administration, and with reference to the international publishing ethics policy and guidelines of COPE, the Editorial Office hereby announces the ethical requirements for authorship in the publication standard process of Journal of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

All submissions must include a signed copyright transfer agreement stating that all authors listed meet the authorship criteria and that no eligible individuals have been omitted, and provide detailed information regarding the contribution of each author to the research and the paper. After submission, the first author and the corresponding author along with their affiliations cannot be changed. Once the paper is accepted, the information of all authors and their affiliations shall not be modified.

If a change of authors, other than the first author and corresponding author, is needed after revision and before re-review of the manuscript, please contact the editorial office and provide the necessary materials according to the following specifications.

    1.         Clarification of the reasons for the change of author(s): The corresponding author and the first author must provide a valid justification for the proposed changes to the authorship.

    2.         For the addition of extra author(s) without changing affiliations: The corresponding author and the first author must provide written documents with a clear explanation of why the extraauthor(s) was(were) not initially included and the reason for his/her(their) inclusion now, along with the contribution of each author. All authors must sign to agree to these changes, and a new copyright transfer agreement must be signed.

    3.         For addition of extra author(s) involving change of affiliations: The corresponding author and the first author must provide an explanation based Item 2, detailing why the original affiliation was not listed and why it is being included now, as well as the contributions of the authors from different affiliations to the paper. Consent must be obtained through signatures and stamps from the relevant departments or research administration of both the original and new affiliations, and a new copyright transfer agreement must be signed.

    4.         For the removal of author(s) from the paper: The corresponding author and the first author must provide a written explanation detailing why the author(s) was(were) originally included and why he/she(they) is(are) now being removed, a written consent from the removed author (with the signature of the removed author(s), and a scanned copy of the written consent sent from the email address of the removed author(s) registered in the submission system). A new copyright transfer agreement must be signed.
