Integrated Model of Preventive Maintenance Policy and EPQ for Reconfigurable Manufacturing System

Abstract: An integrated economical production quantity (EPQ) model of a typical parallelserial reconfigurable manufacturing system producing a single product was proposed, which is generalized by integrating maintenance and configuration policy with the EPQ model. Periodic preventive maintenance policy with minimal repair at failure is considered, and when the production rates change and system reliability reaches predesigned threshold, configuration action will occur. Based on these policies, a profit model was formulated including set up cost, holding cost, minimal maintenance cost, preventive maintenance cost and production cost. The objective is to maximize profit with appropriate EPQ by obtaining the optimal PM period and system reliability threshold. Finally, a numerical example was given to show that the model is reasonable.
