Abstract:

Three-dimensional finite element method was used to analyze an unbraced dock excavation. Cellular diaphragm wall and high-piled slab & beam diaphragm wall were used as the retaining structures of the excavation. The soil was assumed as cross-isotropy elastic material. The calculated results of retaining wall deflections agree well with the field measurements. The calculated results show that the deformation behavior of the retaining wall is influenced by its structure form and construction sequence of the excavation. The piles in the excavation can control the deformation of the retaining wall effectively. The effect of the dock excavation on the adjacent excavation was also discussed.

Key words: cellular diaphragm wall, high-piled slab & beam diaphragm wall, unbraced excavation, threedimensional finite element method, deformation performance
