Abstract:

Based on the corpuscular particle method (CPM), the pressure vessel filling process and out-of-position pendulum test with an airbag were simulated in LS-DYNA. The simulation results were compared with experimental data to verify the validity of the CPM in simulating airbag deployment process. Then, the deployment of airbag on the occupant restraint system was simulated with the CPM by establishing a frontal impact sled model. The comparison between experimental and numerical results of the dummy head injury indicates that the CPM is capable of simulating the airbag deployment process, providing a method for the development of the restraint system and simulation of engineering practice.
