Abstract: Through the established recirculation water channel, the inner flow field in 90° bending duct of circular-section with a fore-end valve was measured by particle image velocimetry (PIV). Characteristics of the flow were obtained through correlation analysis of the massive consecutive high-resolution transient velocity maps, including time-averaged velocity field, streamline pattern and vorticity distributions. Through comparative analysis of the time-averaged velocity field: it is concluded that there exist apparent high-speed and lowspeed regions in the bend part; a vortex emerges on specific conditions; the features of the flow field vary considerably along with the diversity of valve opening magnitude, flow rate and section location.
