Abstract  The main applications, limitations and problems of statistic modeling of groundsea clutter are analyzed. Three classical statistical models are summarized to describe groundsea clutter, namely the model to describe the normalized radar scattering cross section of clutter scattering element, the probability density function model to describe the fluctuation of backscattering coefficient and the power spectrum model to describe the correlation of backscattering coefficient. On the basis of the three types of models, the average backscattering coefficients of common terrain, different frequencies and different incidence angles are given, and the clutter simulation method and results satisfying the specific probability density function and power spectrum are given. Some suggestions for the development of statistical modeling of clutter are given at the end of the article.
