A New Pulse Compression Method to Improve Range Resolution of Meter-band Radar

Abstract  Meter-band radar always suffers low range resolution. To solve this problem, a new pulse compression method based on iterative adaptive technique is proposed. First the traditional matched filter model is constructed, and then the optimal weight vector expression is derived based on minimum mean-square error (MMSE), the improved resolution range profile is obtained via iteratively update the weights and the estimation of range profile. Compared to matched filter, the proposed method is able to overcome the limit of bandwidth to improve the range resolution of meter-band radar. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method.
