Abstract: For a new concept semi-submersible platform with four oblique columns above the water surface, both the model test in the deepwater offshore basin and numerical analyses were carried out to study the hydrodynamic performance. The water depth is 1.5 km and the spread mooring system has to be truncated equivalently for the model test. The hydrodynamic performance in both operational and survival conditions was investigated by analyzing the 6 DOF motions and the mooring line tensions based on the experimental and numerical results. The agreement is generally well and the good hydrodynamic performance of the new concept semi-submersible platform satisfies the design requirements.
